Get To Know: Knit Knack!

Gerri, owner of Knit Knack in Olde Town Arvada, is here to talk about her shop’s approach to community: “The best part of owning a yarn shop is the community that’s built around the crafts of knitting and crochet. Outside of being a full-service yarn shop, Knit Knack has held the idea of community in high priority since its inception in 2007. Our three big tables and deep, comfortable chairs welcome knitters and crocheters of all levels of ability to relax while they meet with friends and enjoy a coffee drink from our espresso bar. Crafters learn short cuts and simple fix-it basics from the friendly advice of others in an open-knitting/crochet group.

Teaching and learning are also social constructs, and the coming-together to learn and build skills in a knitting or crochet class is one of the best ways to meet people who share the same interests. Knit Knack has several knitting groups that were created simply by individuals being in a class together, enjoying each other, and committing to knowing each other on a deeper level. These and other knitting groups meet at Knit Knack on a weekly basis, filling the shop with the positive energy of laughter in a helpful and caring atmosphere.

Knitting and crochet are immensely social activities, allowing the crafter to visit, tell stories and relate to the stories of others who enjoy the process of creating something beautiful and functional. Knit Knack: Yarn Shop. Coffee Bar. Gathering Place. Knit happens—get in here!”

Get To Know: Wooden Spools!

Wooden Spools‘ owner Vicki says the thing she loves the most about owning her shop is “the sense of community that comes with owning a yarn shop. From the group of gals that come to Tuesday night open knit every week – to our customers that we see so often – it feels like family! We get to share in our customer’s successes when they bring in their beautiful completed projects for show ‘n tell – and help them problem-solve along the way! Love the yarn, too 🙂” Check them out on South Broadway in Englewood while on the crawl!

Get To Know: Gypsy Wools!

On the Yarn Along the Rockies crawl you can find Gypsy Wools near highway 36 and Arapahoe in Boulder. Barb, the owner, says what makes her shop unique is that “We try to carry products that have an interesting story—not just a vague “it’s local” slant, but ones that have really rich sensory appeal in addition to the story, especially visual—I want a WOW! factor when customers walk in the door. So we have tried to build an eclectic, inviting mix (I hope!!) of carefully chosen books, patterns yarns and spinning fibers, We have worked to build an interesting, eclectic mix of needlework products—hand- and commercially dyed threads, hand-dyed and natural color linens, a wall of Waverly Wools needlepoint threads (LOCAL to us—they are Brown Sheep in SW Nebraska), and lots of interesting sampler charts and small projects from some of the best designers. Needlework has been much relegated to big box stores; we want to cultivate and support stitchers, because it is an important Craft Tradition in its own right, and there aren’t so many needlework stores these days. There were great ones when I was younger; I want to invite stitchers back into a Brick and Mortar needle-crafter space.”
